Montane Featherlite Wind Smock
I was very impressed the first time I used this top, it quickly became one of my favorite pieces of clothing. I started to find myself bringing it with me on every trip, never leaving without it. This has become a key piece in my layering system. I use it over a merino wool t-shirt in the summer and over my baselayer but beneath my insulation in the winter. This acts as a semi permeable vapor barrier liner to protect my insulation from getting wet from the inside.
The cut is absolutely fabulous, the back is cut longer for a little extra protection. Lyra binding at the wrist cuffs and waist hold the smock secure without being too tight. Heat transfer reflective dots make it easy to be seen in the dark. As far as durability goes the Pertex Microlight fabric is amazingly tough for its weight, rock abrasion and getting caught on branches did no damage to this windshirt.
I feel that the $76.00 price point is a very good, The fabric is outstanding and cut is perfect. The pack size is incredible, my size medium packs a little larger than a golf ball, but is smaller than an apple. I recommend this smock to anyone who needs a light and tough windshirt with very high breathability.
