I bought these boots for my husband. His foot is very wide in the toe area and he always complains the boots he buys are not wide enough. I bought these boots for me and was very happy with the roomy fit in the toe box. He likes these boots as well because of the room in the toe box and the ankle support they give him. The boots run a half size too small so just order a half size bigger and they will fit great.

The Jawbone is designed like a trail running shoe with a mid-upper. For carrying a daypack on dry(er) trails the mid-upper gives a little support without feeling like a boot - keeps trail debris out of the shoe box - keeps your ankles protected in talus conditions - it does not have a Gore-Tex like membrane which allows the shoe to breathe freely - in warm conditions this is a big plus - inside condensation and incidental trail moisture dry quickly while hiking. I bought these shoes specifically for a couple of Grand Canyon hikes - this lightweight shoe/boot performed just like I needed them to. Almost no brake-in - multiple day use and stayed dry and comfortable. You can definitely use these as trail runners for single track conditions - especially good for fast pace and steeper conditions. I also have used the Montrail Namche (the previous model) and the Jawbone is a good upgrade - highly recommended.

Worst hiking boot ever, period. Style is great, very lightweight, but feels like it's made of hard rigid plastic in the worst areas. Extreme blisters on the achilles and inside arch. The main problem is the lace eye loops are attached to a hard piece of plastic on both sides. No matter how loose or tight you tie them, that plastic has no give, and will rub right through your foot. Bottom line, I would feel bad giving these to a homeless person. This is not a dis on Montrail, however. The Montrail Masochist is my favorite shoe! But they definitely got the Jawbone wrong.
